We will play with altering thrown forms off the wheel and play with the organic shapes of beginner pottery. We will also delve into different methods of surfacing with studio glazes, slips and stains. Students will have the opportunity to create and finish their own ceramic mugs, bowls, plates etc. (both microwave and dishwasher safe) that they can use for years to come. Ceramics is a great way to let go, make a mess and have fun while creating objects that will have longevity in your world. Class is for 9 sessions in July, 2024, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7ish pm. $200 includes 25# of clay, glazing and firing. Unlock the mysteries of clay and begin to play. In this four week beginners course we will dive into the concepts of centering clay on the wheel, wedging, trimming leather-hard clay, pulling and attaching handles, and basic glaze techniques. Find your new creative outlet to make your own functional art.
4 week introductory pottery class for beginner & intermediate learners. In this course, students will learn a variety of techniques for creating lidded vessels, jars, and attachments for wheel-thrown forms. Class fee includes a 25 pound bag of clay, glazes, and firing.

ABOUT: WHEN: Wednesdays -- May 3, May 10, May 17, May 24 TIME: 6:30pm-8:30pm Class Fee: $100 Class limited to 10 participants WHERE: Paonia Clayworks, behind the print shop (end of Grand). In this 4-week class, we will go over all aspects of finding, harvesting, processing, throwing and firing your own wild clay objects. We’ll process multiple clays, including those brought in by students, plan and execute multiple test fires, and experiment with different permutations of the wild clay including clay blends, glazes, additives, slips, terra sigillata and pit-wood fire!
